what is scarwork?

Scarwork is a gentle touch manual therapy created by Sharon Wheeler in 1973. Sharon’s inspired creation of this modality evolved from her teacher’s work, Ida P. Rolf, the founder of Structural Integration also known as Rolfing.

I have been blessed to witness such extraordinary shifts in my clients’ bodies through this work. The unexpected seems to happen every time. A new level of function, another layer of release. Scarwork combined with breath and functional movement coaching for the pelvic floor is a beautiful combination for regaining sexual and digestive health.

how can scarwork support you?

Scarwork may support you if you are someone who has had injuries, surgeries, or burns from radiation or fire and are experiencing:

Pain

Restriction in mobility

Respiratory dysfunction

Digestive dysfunction

Reproductive dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction

I have worked with women who’ve experienced cesareans, mastectomies, abdominal tumor removals, hysterectomies due to endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and ovarian cysts. The daily challenges from these procedures can be eased with this work. I encourage you to setup up a phone consult for more information.

WHAT are scars?

Scars are fascial tissue that act as scaffolding and internal scabs to remodel necessary channels for our nerves and blood vessels while we heal. Once we’ve healed from injury or surgery and our nerves and blood vessels no longer need the scaffolding scar tissue might continue to grow and adhere restrictively, blocking nerve signals and creating stagnancy in all fluids.

If you’ve had abdominal surgeries, even if it was a ‘small’ laparoscopic surgery organs migrate toward scars and create a myriad of respiratory, digestive, and reproductive challenges.

DURING YOUR SESSION

You will be asked about the story of your scar/s  including timeline and procedures. As much information as you’re willing to share will help my understanding of how tissue was impacted. This is also an opportunity for us both to give space to any aspect of your experience surrounding the scar that may come up. This granted space is often the first time that a more complete story of the scar, injury or surgery experience, is considered, shared or processed.

AFTER YOUR SESSION YOU MAY EXPERIENCE

A sense of liberation or freedom

More mobility, better digestion, reproductive and sexual function

More breath, hunger, range of motion, strength, ease, and insight

2-3 weeks of continued change
